 BSL and Spoken English

Every performance will be told in a combination of integrated British Sign Language and spoken English.

At moments of the show only BSL will be used; audience members who do not use BSL will not fully understand these conversations. At other moments only spoken English will be used; D/deaf audience members may not fully understand these conversations. This is part of the show’s design, and everyone will get a full story. The Process is fully accessible for BSL users and hearing audience members.

 Relaxed Environment

We will be presenting every performance of The Process in a relaxed environment, aiming to create a space for everyone, especially people who would benefit from a more informal experience. Some of the things that will be in place include:
  • A relaxed attitude to noise in the auditorium. You are welcome to respond to the show in whatever way feels natural.
  • You can enter and exit the auditorium as you please.
  • There will be a more private 'break-out' space with soft furnishings.
  • We will be producing a Sensory Synopsis and a Story Synopsis for this production, which will be made available here for anyone that may benefit from them (please check back here for more details).
We do not make any changes to the technical elements of the production at these performances.

 Relaxed Performances

At Relaxed Performances, in addition to the relaxed environment:
  • The lights in the audience will be kept on at a low level.
  • We will make small changes to the lights and sound, such as taking out strobe lights and reducing the level of loud noises.
There will be Relaxed Performances on:
  • Tuesday 21st January, 7.30pm
  • Tuesday 28th January, 7.30pm (also a Captioned Performance)

 Captioned Performances

Performances will be captioned using The Difference Engine. The Difference Engine is a free to download app that delivers captions to your mobile device throughout the show. Captioned performances will be on the following dates:
  • Tuesday 14th January, 7.30pm
  • Saturday 18th January, 7.30pm
  • Thursday 23rd January, 7.30pm
  • Tuesday 28th January, 7.30pm (also a Relaxed Performance)

 Audio Described Performance

There will be an audio described performance on Thursday 30th January at 7.30pm.

Audio description is a live verbal commentary providing information on the visual elements of the production as it unfolds. It describes action that is essential to an understanding of the play's story, as well as other visual information such as the style and design of a production, facial expressions and visual jokes that a blind or visually impaired member of the audience might otherwise miss. The description is delivered in between the dialogue of a performance and is picked up by the audience member wearing a special lightweight headset that is easy to use.

Touch Tour

There will also be a touch tour available before the show on Thursday 30th January, free for ticket holders. A Touch Tour may be useful for blind and visually impaired audience members to familiarise themselves with the set, props and costumes ahead of the performance. To book for the touch tour, please contact us in advance.

Transport Guides

If you need a guide to meet you from a local tube station, bus stop or taxi stop to help you make your way to the venue, we can arrange for a steward to meet you. Please do contact us in advance to let us know.

Wheelchair Access

There are spaces for wheelchairs to be positioned in the front row of seating in the venue with excellent views of the stage. We can also arrange spaces for a personal assistant (carer or supporter), who will be allocated a free ticket.

The Bunker is accessed by two ramps that have a steep incline. Wheelchair users may require assistance to ensure safe and smooth access.
